First day of SEE TEFL class

Monday was Amber’s first day of SEE TEFL class.  The school is very modern, clean, air-conditioned, etc.  Amber really enjoyed it, and she said the professors and staff were very friendly.  They set the itinerary for the next four weeks, talked about Thai culture, and introduced some basic Thai language lessons.  The Thai language is a “tonal” language, so the way you pronounce a word is just as important as the word itself.  For example, a word like “ma” can be pronounced half a dozen ways and mean completely different things!

While she was in class, I went running for the first time in our local area.  We’ve been told that Thai people generally don’t like to walk much of a distance, so they definitely don’t like running long distance.  Although they didn’t point and laugh, I could tell they were watching the “crazy farang” with amusement.  Afterwards, I relaxed by the pool and read the newspaper.

Craving some more Western comfort food, Amber and I went to Miguel’s for a Mexican dinner along the eastern moat.  We had tacos, enchiladas, refried beans, and rice, and it tasted very authentic (and even a bit hotter/spicier than in the US).  Afterwards, we wandered around the Night Bazaar for a few more gifts for our parents.
