Shopping at the Night Bazaar
Last night we walked to the Night Bazaar, Chiang Mai’s largest and most diverse shopping market. The market is open every night of the week, but it’s especially lively on a Friday night. The market covers a number of city blocks, including some two- and three-story department store buildings. Outdoor stands line the streets, and the entire area is lit up with hanging lanterns and strands of lights of every size, shape, and color. The Night Bazaar is frequented by expats and locals alike, some of whom stay until midnight or later to get the best bargains. You can shop for a wide array of items, from the usual touristy tshirts, knock-off sandals, and jewelry to handmade ethnic crafts, tailored suits, and antique carved statues and furniture.
We also ate at a fresh seafood cafe in the center of the shopping area, a few steps away from shoppers browsing the stalls. Craving some fresh fish? Check out the picture below of our dinner – Amber’s chicken fried rice, and my tabtim fish with ginger, garlic, Thai red chilies, etc and spinach cooked in oyster sauce!

Whether it be in the US or Thailand, Amber can find the closest place for shoe shopping! haha. Glad to see y’all are having a great time!
Amber, read with interest your first adventures. Happy to hear that you both are OK. You shop for shoes, need them for walking, I am sure! I shop for books, found one and it’s sold in Thailand! “Nine Thousand Nights: Refugees from Burma, A people’s Scapbook”. TBBC is publishing it next week, I think. I tried to order it on-line but it didn’t go through so I hope you can keep an eye for the book. I e-mailed TBBC to ask what the problem was, if I dont’t hear from them, maybe you can help me to get it.
Hm, rainy in Chian Mai, rainy/cloudy in Jacksonville Beach.
