The Weekday Routine
During the week, we settle into a fairly predictable routine. We get up around 7am, and Amber gets ready for class or student teaching. On Monday, she taught 6th graders how to tell time using the words “past” and “to” – such as “fifteen minutes past four o’clock”. Tuesday and Wednesday were class days and time spent preparing lesson plans, and today she taught kindergarten children the “short o” sound – such as “box, dog, mop, hop, etc”. She’s been doing great with the SEE TEFL program and says the kids are cute and well-behaved!
During the day, I walk the streets of Chiang Mai on little errands – buying bottled water or groceries, changing my watch battery, gathering teaching materials for Amber’s student teaching lessons, etc. Also, I go running every few days, which never ceases to amuse the Thai locals.
In the evenings, we walk somewhere for some home-cooked, low-cost Thai food. Our favorite restaurant so far is Nam Mae Ping. Afterwards, we may wander over to the Night Bazaar or walk a few blocks along the city’s moat. Tonight, since it is Thursday night and Amber has an easy day in class tomorrow, we plan to make our way to the UN Irish Pub for trivia.
Overall this week, it has rained every day, with some of the rains coming as heavy downpours. The rain was so heavy, that two nights ago an intersection a few blocks from our hotel flooded. The water was up to my knees, and tuk-tuks had to take the long way around to prevent their engines from being flooded out.
For your viewing pleasure, here are a few random and interesting photos I took today while walking the streets around our hotel!

If I was those guys by the river, I’d be worried too. Not exactly the 4th floor. Stay dry and get some board games:)
